One thing that may strike consumers at the outset is the higher up-front cost of SIPs, but their abundant benefits more than make up for it over time (in dollars and comfort). SIPs have been a consistently reliable and strong choice since they arrived on the market, and the recent introduction of graphite into some versions has added an even bigger boost to their already impressive insulating properties. The white core is typically polystyrene, expanded polystyrene (most common), Styrofoam or polyurethane - the same durable-yet-lightweight foams used in bicycle and motorcycle helmets. Other materials used in SIPs include plywood or sheet metal, mainly in commercial applications. The composition varies by manufacturer, but generally, a SIP is a solid core of insulation sandwiched between two layers of oriented strand board (OSB). The two mirror and reinforce each other’s strengths, from their sustainability to the swiftness with which they come together due to precision manufacturing. Installation of structural insulated panels is quicker, cleaner, and more cost effective than traditional framing. In construction, structural insulated panels (SIPs) and timber frame homes are a bit of a power couple. Off-site fabrication makes SIPs a big part of our green construction practices.SIPs help create long lasting, sustainable timber frame homes with outstanding air quality, moisture control, reduced noise pollution, and accurate temperature regulation.Using SIPs combined with timbers maximizes floor space, adds flexibility to hybrid designs, and can lower overall costs.Smaller HVAC units save energy, space, and money. SIPs increase timber home operating efficiency by creating an air-sealed, super insulated environment that requires smaller HVAC systems. Higher R-value for your walls and roof means less heat loss and less energy needed for heating and cooling. ![]() These properties allow the system to work in concert with other energy-efficient components like windows, doors, and HVAC systems to reduce heat lost by 40-60% over standard wood-framed construction. SIP assemblies provide much higher effective thermal resistance than other construction methods.Based on the reliable performance of SIPs, ENERGY STAR for Homes chose to eliminate the required blower door test for SIP homes to meet ENERGY STAR standards. Which is … what, exactly? Why wouldn’t Fury explain this to the people he’s trying to convince to join him? (Even if he’s bullshitting a little, wouldn’t he try to gin up a better motivation than “trust me”?) It’s at this elliptical point, just a few minutes into the second episode, where it becomes equally arguable that Secret Invasion is already taking some shortcuts to keep its undercover-Skrull story from undermining a bunch of continuity - and in doing so, is undermining other aspects of itself. In the process, we also see a young Gi’ah, whose mother is the first to volunteer for Fury’s mission. Talos is on hand, too, making explicit Fury’s lynchpin role in the Skrulls’ future: “This man, I trust,” he tells the small group, somehow not adding, for maximum irony, “and in no way would I expect him to put this task off for several decades and then go on unrelated space missions without us.”įury addresses the Skrull recruits, too, and preaches cooperation, saying that “the world is facing a serious threat, and I could use your help.” He proposes that the Skrulls use their valuable shape-shifting skills to spy for him in exchange for the tireless efforts (cough!) of him and Captain Marvel (double cough!) to secure them a new home. Seehorn can’t say the same, as the actor admits she had to work to separate what she was feeling, on the final day of filming, from what the “much more reserved” and “more poker-faced” Kim was. And it was great because it meant that every beat, every connection, they had was all shot continuously.”ĭespite the ticking clock, Gould acknowledges that he was so focused on nailing the pivotal sequence that the emotions of the series ending didn’t hit him until much later. “So the actual angle over Bob to Rhea is using a front-silvered mirror, and then was flipped later. “And I think we earned taking a little bit of time with that scene.” Luckily, director of photography Marshall Adams came up with a unique idea that Gould says “saved my keister.” “We were able to shoot both Bob and Rhea at the same time by using a mirror,” Gould shares. “One of the things I’m so happy with about the scene is how all the thoughts are there underneath the words and they take their time with the moments,” he says. With it being the series’ final day of filming, he did start to become concerned that he wouldn’t finish in time and would have to call everyone back the next day. It was a little liberty that we took for ourselves at that point.”Īnother liberty Gould took was time-maybe too much. And I'm sure on a lot of TV sets you probably can’t even see that it’s in color, but I would rather have it be too subtle than too bold. And Diane Mercer, our brilliant post-producer, kept on pushing me…and so we kept playing with it. “It felt very much like a technical thing, and so I took it out completely. “This was very tricky to do, because when we first tried it, it was all you looked at, and you didn’t really look at their faces,” Gould explains. Like all of the post– Breaking Bad action on Saul, the sequence is in black and white-except for a colored flame on the match and tip of the cigarette. “And so any of those ones where it looks like it’s coolly going up into our eye, Bob and I are just absolutely dying, trying to keep our eyes open.”Īudiences might not be able to spot how the actors were affected by that, but, if they looked close enough, they could notice one special effect. “ these horrible herbal cigarettes that create five times more smoke than a regular cigarette,” she says. Seehorn credits her past experience with why she appears so “physically relaxed” when Kim has her turns at taking a drag, even as she also was physically struggling to get through it. I was like, ‘I’m going to learn how to smoke.’… But I quit years ago!” So I got very frustrated with myself, and then got cast in another thing where I was smoking, and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to get on top of this this time’ like a dumbass. “You see people have cigarettes in their hand, and it might as well just be another finger. “Well, don’t tell my kids, but I smoked for a little bit when I got out of college, because I did a film where I was supposed to be smoking, and it looked awful,” Seehorn says with a laugh. Seehorn, who was Emmy nominated in 2022 for her role as Kim, had many seasons to prepare for those final scenes-and even more time to prepare for that smoking. “It felt right to do that, and it’s also a neat thing to bookend, not really the show, as much as their relationship.” “The characters know very well, this is what we do, and this is a way for us to remember everything that we’ve been to each other, and all the time we’ve spent together and this crazy journey,” Gould shares. ![]() He responds, “But, with good behavior, who knows,” to Kim’s amusement. “You had them down to seven years,” Kim says to Jimmy of the plea deal that he blew up, resulting in an eventual sentence of 86 years. Once Jimmy walks into the prison interview room, the two share a quick hello, before almost immediately taking their familiar positions: leaning up against a wall, passing a cigarette back and forth, just 20 words spoken between them. Gould had the same instinct, as he initially wrote more dialogue for Jimmy and Kim’s jailhouse reunion, only to keep paring it down. ![]() ![]() For instance, a 200mm × 410mm block may get scored in the centre to restore 200 mm × 200 mm brickwork, with grooves loaded with a mortar.Ĭurrently, breeze blocks are making a rebound. ![]() It allows the filler material to be secure between the end of un-mortared blocks.īlock sizes might also depend on the width of a mortar joint. Says Hagee, “Let us put an end to this Christian chatter that ‘all the Jews are lost’ and can’t be in the will of God until they convert to Christianity!” Incredibly, Hagee goes so far as to take the onus off of the Jewish community and place it squarely on the Jewish Christ: “If Jesus refused by his words or actions to claim to be the Messiah to the Jews,” asks Hagee, “then how can the Jews be blamed for rejecting what was never offered?” Hagee goes so far as to say that the Jewish people “wanted to be their Messiah but he absolutely refused….the Jews were not rejecting Jesus as Messiah, it was Jesus who was refusing to be Messiah to the Jews!” Anyone who has read through the Gospels even once knows full well that Jesus emphatically contradicted such sentiments. Hagee places greater emphasis on returning Jews to the land than turning Jewish people to the Lord.
